Session 1:
Groundwork Needed
It is vital in the new normal of work and growing remote employees to keep our workforce aligned and connected for continued success.
Thus, your company needs a practical and effective goals process.
Most people know about goals. However, using goals effectively is not widely adopted. Strategic alignment from all levels and a strong performance culture is needed for consistent and successful results. If not, chaos and poor outcomes are the common experience of poorly performing companies.
Jumping haphazardly to setting and using goals in moments of crises or lack of knowledge results to a poorly developed program with limited stakeholder support and the wrong goals.
In this master class, we will help you create a strategic and effective goal-setting program that will keep your employees aligned and connected consistently.
Broken Goals (and How Could They be Better)
“Here’s the truth: Many of us are setting goals wrong. And most of us are not setting goals at all.”
— John Doerr, author of Measure What Matters
The sad truth is that many companies set the wrong goals. Furthermore, most do not even set goals at all.
Let’s do a quick exercise. What at the top three work goals you have recently set and what are the results (achieved or not)?
If you have, were the goals specific and measurable? Are the goals achievable for the time frame allotted? Were you empowered with the resources needed to achieve them? Did you review your progress? And did they fully align towards both your department and company objectives?
(Or, did you even set goals at all?) 😊
Studies show that an astounding 93% of employees are unable to tie their activities to their organizational objectives. And that’s a lot of lost effort and money spent not clearly pursuing your company’s mission and vision.
Your executives will not be happy if this is what you have.
Role of goals and the employee experience
Let us discus about motivation and alignment. These are two critical factors that can craft and sustain an amazing employee experience.
Motivation is a measure of how excited your employees are about their work. Motivated employees feel connected to the company and to each other, and feel valued and appreciated.
Alignment is how well all the pieces come together. Aligned employees know the impact of their work to the company and to the communities they belong to, and clearly understand their own career progression and development.

An amazing employee experience also promotes talent retention and better company performance.
Goal-setting is a quick enabler of employee motivation and organizational alignment. Let’s share with you below how goals drive sustained company success.
To have an effective continuous performance management process, you will need goals that help contribute to company success. Goals provide direction and focus on what activities should be prioritized. Furthermore, they allow you to see if things are working or not, and be able to fix performance issues as they arise – and not at the end of the year.
Let’s keep it mind that goals are not static or a one-time effort. Goals are truly effective when they provide focus and priority for our daily activities and align everyone in the company.
When you go about creating your company’s goals process, champion continuous feedback all year round where managers and employees touch base quarterly, monthly, or even weekly.
This best practice allows managers and mentors to provide timely feedback to employees so they can adapt quickly to changing conditions and address small issues before they become bigger problems that affect your bottom line.
