Stop Trying to Motivate your Employees...Then What?

June 22, 2022

You might be confused about our blog topic. I was as well when I first came across the video of Kerry Goyette at the TEDx talks in CosmoPark.

Kerry is the Founder & President of Aperio ConsultingGroup, a corporate consulting firm that provides workplace analytics and training to build high performance cultures.

Kerry spoke about the common misconceptions and approaches people normally take in motivating people. She emphasizes the importance of creating a workplace culture that systemically promotes self-motivation. I believe this is really important but very hard to do. It is easier for a manager to motivate a few people or teams but creating a workplace culture of self-motivated employees is a big challenge.

Take a look at Kerry’s TED talk below.

Comments of YouTube viewers focused on the intrinsic need to be appreciated, given sincere recognition, and recieve lasting inspiration.

Here is one comment:

"Motivation is often an organic result that comes from Employees who... truly felt and shown appreciation for their efforts. Countless studies by Gallup and Harvard confirm our intrinsic need to be appreciated. True Recognition encourages, motivates..."

It seems employee recognition should become part of the workplace culture so that effective motivation can be achieved for the long-term. Company leaders should consider using a Tech platform that can provide the foundation of a self-motivated workplace culture that generates superior business outcomes.
